Digital systems are common today for model railroad control. However, they alone do not ensure diversified and reliable operation of a model railroad. It is true, that multiple digitally controlled trains can run independently on the same track. A human operator, however, is usually not able to monitor more than one or two moving trains at the same time. Switching of turnouts and signals is not significantly easier with digital systems than with conventional analog control – not to mention the switching of complete routes and comfortable operation of a whole switchboard.
